Dispatches from Wisconsin

Hello, how are you all?

It’s been a while since I’ve actually written something here, and not just reblogged an image on a whim, such as a captioned owl I found (and still find) quite amusing.

I’ve realized lately that I feel like I have less that I need to say on here. Sam and I talk about everything, and with the few hours every day I have to myself, I guess don’t feel like rehashing much. But here are a few things:

My job has been going, on the whole, very well. For years I never expected to work full time as a computer programmer, citing the inability to just sit at a computer and write code all day. Fortunately, the way we work doesn’t have me coding incessantly, and I’m getting into a rhythm. I’m bummed that only three developers of seven remain from when I started in June, but it’s been a quick six months, and I look forward to the next six.

My apartment still has no thermostat (I can turn the heat on, or off), and my neighbors cut a tree down and left in my yard a couple months ago, but it’s nicer than I give it credit. “At least I have my own washer and dryer,” is what I tell myself when I’m feeling particularly crabby.

And it’s Christmas, which means I’m at home with family and friends, one of whom is going through a tough spot, as his mother just suffered an aneurysm on Tuesday. She’s doing well, but the next couple weeks will be touch and go, so if you think of it, keep her in your thoughts. It’s incredible how much went right in the few hours leading up to her diagnosis — simply incredible.

Anyway, I’m going to go play some pond hockey, and soak in Madison for a few days before I head back to Iowa. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
